The proposed per-lot assessment increase from $710 to $798 required six of the nine directors to vote to approve it since it is more than a 10 percent increase over last year's assessment.

Lily Jordan correctly spelled the word "salmonella" to take the price. 13 of Maine's 16 counties were represented at the competition, which is sponsored locally by The Portland Press Herald. 
It was held at the University of Southern Maine in Portland. 


Jordan says she studied by using a booklet from Scripps Merriam Webster called, "Spell It."
